EIDORA 0.2.x

Series overview · Prototype

EIDORA is open-source desktop software for researching cultural collections through embedding space exploration. The 0.2.x series brings collection preparation, metadata, embeddings, interactive discovery, and figure creation into one application.

Available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Analysis runs locally; internet access is needed to discover and download models. EIDORA is free under the MIT license; embedding models may have separate licenses.

This series is prototype software. Stability and backward compatibility are not guaranteed; use copies of your data and projects. Individual releases below document changes, requirements, and validation.

EIDORA 0.2.6

2026-11-03 · Prototype

Experimental, untested prototype software. Builds may crash, lose data, or change without notice. Use only copies of your data and projects; do not rely on these builds for production work.

EIDORA 0.2.6 is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Project formats are unchanged. Windows 0.2.6 is available in Microsoft Store (Store package 1.2.6.0).

Prototype software. Use at your own risk. Stability and backward compatibility are not guaranteed. Use copies of your data and projects.

Changes

  • Improve CoreML compatibility for Model Zoo models, including VGG and transformer models, with static-shape execution and preserved normalized outputs. Unsupported graph sections can still run on CPU.
  • Show Model Zoo download sizes using cached Hugging Face file metadata.
  • Make NVIDIA GPU support an optional, verified download on Windows and Linux. The base installers contain neither NVIDIA libraries nor ONNX Runtime's CUDA provider. On compatible NVIDIA devices, Enable NVIDIA GPU… downloads and checks GPU support, with progress, cancellation, and retry. CPU execution needs no extra download.
  • Use patched ONNX 1.22.0 for macOS compatibility processing. Mac dependencies and CoreML availability remain unchanged by the optional CUDA packaging.

Downloads and installation

Both Mac DMGs are Developer ID signed, notarized, and stapled. They require macOS 15 or later. Quit EIDORA, open the appropriate DMG, and drag EIDORA into Applications.

Linux x64 packages were built and self-tested on Ubuntu 24.04. Make the AppImage executable or install the DEB with your package manager. The AppImage is about 513 MiB and the DEB about 455 MiB. SHA-256 checksums cover the final installer bytes.

Windows installation and updates remain managed by Microsoft Store. The MSIX submission package is not attached here. Windows 0.2.6 is available through the Store app or the Microsoft web installer.

Validation

All four platform builds and packaged self-tests passed. Both signed Mac applications passed offscreen and native Cocoa runtime checks, including UMAP and export checks; Intel checks ran under Rosetta. The release-pinned source suite passed 2,393 tests, with one skipped.

NVIDIA hardware inference, fresh native installation/upgrade checks, and Windows WACK remain maintainer-deferred and are not reported as passed. CoreML compatibility with untested future models is not guaranteed.

Installing and updating

Windows

Open Microsoft Store or choose Download installer (.exe) to download Microsoft's EIDORA installer directly, without visiting the Store website. The installer downloads the current version available to your device from Microsoft Store; the Store manages subsequent updates for both options.

The downloaded installer can work when only the Store app is blocked. It still requires access to Microsoft's installation services and may be restricted by your university's IT policies.

macOS

Choose Apple Silicon or Intel to match your Mac. Quit EIDORA, open the downloaded DMG, and copy EIDORA into Applications, replacing the previous application when updating.

Linux

Use the DEB package on compatible Debian-based distributions, or the AppImage on supported Linux systems. Install a newer DEB over the previous package. For AppImage, quit EIDORA, replace the old file, and make the new file executable. Updates are downloaded manually.

Keep your project folders when replacing the application. Read each release's compatibility notes before opening existing projects.
